As we welcome the New Year, this collection of stamps centers around historical events by month. These are events or individuals who have had a stamp issued to commemorate their significance in history. We first start January's collection with a New Year's postcard from 1910 and several New Year's stamps from various countries. Other historical events included here are: Ellis Island opens, Alaska becomes the 49th state, the first Mekeel's Weekly Stamp News is published, the 19th Amendment is passed granting women the right to vote, the first nuclear powered submarine is launched and much, much more.
